The numeration began after the war.
Everyone was issued a commuser number and linked into the network.
To activate your account you had to have a personal accountability device
about the size of a deck of cards. Every p.a.d. held the user accountability
statement for network access. All those who couldn't afford a p.a.d were
condemned to obscurity until they could activate their network account.
The Network was the only means to legally gain resources through the government.
Insurance, Banking and Leasing were all done on the network.
The income commusers make is directly pooled into the network and properly
distributed to every service provided.
This is how the government maintained control.
Networking became the only real job since everything was automated.
All the good networking jobs were in the capitol district.
The city was divided up into sectors, and every sector operated a specific
network server. Each server controlled it's part of the network. Inside the
server sectors were drives where user information is recieved and stored.
From the drive, data is sent to a site where it can be processed for the
server operations. Data is so sensitive that carriers are hired to transport
the physical data from the drives to the sites through underground portals.
Once the data is processed, it gets sent to a lab where all the server files
are coded to the government standard. Engineers at the lab compress every
server file into single network files and pattern them together in a sequence.
After that, the sequence is converted into a wave file by ringers who build
sines from the sequence. Once the completed sequence is converted, a specialist
is called in. Specialists apply wave breaks at precise moments in the sequence
as to make them obscure to the commusers. The applied break helps the program
to become broadcastable and fully effective.
Once the program is completed, it is sent to the producer of the broadcast
station for review in his private theatre. The producer goes through every
note and filters out each pattern to ensure it follows the government standard.
He then sends it upstairs to the compilers who overlay government media
broadcasts over the program. The government uses the broadcasts to mask the
program. After the broadcast has been layered, the final cut is sent to the
broadcast station in preparation for transmission. Once in the morning, at 9,
and again at noon, a signal goes out from the satellite station on top of the
tower.
